Every Fireside kit includes pre-cut, kiln-dried timber (every piece stamped with a build number), structural framing, roof system, windows, exterior doors, hardware bags, and a step-by-step assembly manual. Each kit ships packing-list-verified — if something's missing, we overnight the replacement at our cost. What you're buying is a complete, ready-to-raise shell.

Foundation work, concrete or piers, permits, labor, interior finishing (flooring, drywall, paint), plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and appliances are all separate. We're honest about this upfront because total project cost varies a lot depending on your site, your region, and how finished you want the interior. The kit gets you a weathertight shell — the rest is your build.

Every piece arrives pre-cut to length and stamped with a build number that corresponds to your assembly manual. There's no on-site measuring and no wasted lumber. You follow the numbers in order — it goes together like a life-size model kit. A miter saw for minor trim work is handy, but the major cuts are done before it leaves our facility.

We use responsibly sourced, kiln-dried timber — species and origin are listed on every order confirmation. Kiln-drying is important: it reduces moisture content before assembly, which minimizes shrinkage, checking, and settling after your build. Yes, within reason. We can adjust window and door placement, swap out door styles, and accommodate non-standard footprints on larger models. Significant structural changes (floor plan alterations, load-bearing modifications) are reviewed case by case. We ship to the contiguous 48 states. Some remote areas (no paved road access, steep grades, weight-restricted bridges) may require alternative delivery arrangements — contact us before ordering if your site has access limitations and we'll figure out the best approach together.

Kits ship via freight carrier on flatbed trucks, palletized and tarped. Delivery is curbside — the truck brings everything to your site access point and you offload from there. You'll want a forklift, tractor with forks, or a small crew with rollers on hand for offload day. We coordinate delivery timing with you and give you a window in advance so you can be ready.

Standard lead time is 4–6 weeks from order to shipping. This covers final production, quality checks, and freight scheduling. If you're on a tight timeline, let us know at the time of order and we'll tell you honestly whether we can accommodate it. We don't overpromise on timelines.

Document everything before the freight driver leaves — photos of any damaged packaging or pieces, and note it on the delivery receipt. Contact us within 5 business days of delivery with photos and your order number. We cover replacement parts for damage that occurred in transit; we'll ship them fast and keep your build on track. We've never left a builder stuck.

Most of our kits are designed to be built by two capable people with general construction experience. If you're comfortable with a drill, a level, and following detailed instructions, you can raise the shell yourself. That said, for larger cabins (3BR+), hiring a framing crew for the raise weekend is smart — it goes faster and safer. Foundation work, electrical, and plumbing should always be handled by licensed contractors.

A small cabin (Studio Shack, Hunt Shack) can have its shell up in a single weekend with two people. A 2-bedroom takes most builders 2–3 weekends for the shell. Larger cabins — 3BR and up — typically take 1–3 weeks for the shell depending on crew size and experience. Interior finishing (insulation, drywall, electrical, plumbing) adds time on top of that, and varies widely by how much work you're doing yourself.

Yes. Every kit includes a full step-by-step assembly manual specific to your model. It covers foundation prep, log raising sequence, roof framing, window and door installation, and weatherproofing. Our support team is also available by phone and email if you hit a question mid-build — we've helped builders through every stage.

For most kits: a cordless drill/driver, a level (4-ft and 8-ft), a rubber mallet, wrenches, a circular saw, and basic hand tools. For the raise, you'll want a way to lift heavy timbers — a come-along, gin pole, or small equipment. Full tool list is included in your assembly manual. No specialty woodworking equipment required.

It depends on your kit size, soil conditions, local frost depth, and building codes. Common options include poured concrete slab, concrete perimeter foundation, and concrete piers or helical piers. Smaller cabins like the Studio and Hunt Shack can often use a simple pier system. Larger cabins typically need a full slab or perimeter foundation. Your local engineer or contractor can spec the right foundation for your site.

Foundation work is not part of our kit — you'll hire a local contractor or concrete company for that. We strongly recommend having the foundation in place and cured before your kit ships, so you're ready to build when the truck arrives. We can provide foundation specs for your kit model to share with your contractor.

You'll need clear access for a flatbed freight truck (typically 14 ft wide clearance minimum), a level staging area to offload pallets, and a safe, dry place to store materials if you're not building immediately. If your site has trees, stumps, or soft ground near the access point, address those before delivery day. We'll walk through site requirements with you during order confirmation.

In most cases, yes — especially for cabins intended as a primary or secondary residence, rental property, or anything with plumbing and electrical. Permit requirements vary by county and municipality. Some rural areas have minimal permitting for small structures on large parcels; others require full review. It's your responsibility to check local requirements before you build. We provide drawings and specs that support the permit application process.

Our kits are engineered and designed to meet standard residential building codes. We can provide drawings, load calculations, and material specs as needed for your permit application. That said, local codes vary — your local building department has final say, and you may need a local engineer to stamp drawings for your jurisdiction. We make this as easy as possible; we've supported permits in dozens of states.

Zoning is entirely local — it's your responsibility to confirm that a cabin is a permitted use on your parcel before you order. Key things to check: zoning designation (residential, agricultural, recreational), minimum setbacks, any HOA restrictions, and whether short-term rental use is allowed if that's your plan. Your county planning or zoning office is the right place to start. We can't advise on zoning, but we've seen most of the questions that come up and can point you in the right direction.

Because total cost depends on too many variables we don't control — your site, your foundation type, your region's labor rates, how finished you want the interior, and what you're doing yourself vs. hiring out. Showing a fake "all-in" number would be misleading. What we can tell you: the kit is the biggest single line item, and we're upfront about what's included. Budget roughly 1.5–2.5× the kit price for a fully finished turnkey build, depending on your choices.

Fireside Cabin Kits is not a lender and cannot accept financing applications through our site or quote form. It does not include foundation, permits, labor, interior finishing, utilities, or site work. Think of it like buying a car body: we supply the structure, you complete the build to your spec and budget.

Every Fireside cabin kit comes with a 10-year structural warranty. This covers the structural integrity of the timber components — the logs, beams, and framing members — against defects in material and workmanship. It's one of the stronger warranties in the prefab cabin kit industry, and we stand behind it.

Covered: structural timber defects, manufacturing issues, and components that fail under normal use conditions. Not covered: damage from improper assembly (which is why we include detailed instructions), normal settling and checking in the wood (this is natural in any log structure), damage from weather exposure after delivery, or issues arising from foundation failure or improper site prep. Yes. Our team is available by phone and email throughout your build and after.
